Position: Development and Finance Director

Hours & Salary Full-time, and $55,000 – 63,000

Asian American Organizing Project is a non-partisan organization led by and for young Asian Minnesotans in the Twin Cities. Through our grassroots organizing efforts and programming, we aim to develop young Asian community leaders to resist oppression and co-create a more just future for their families, schools, communities, and cities. 

The Development and Finance Director will be a strategic thought-partner, and report to the Executive Director. The Development and Finance Director will play a critical role in partnering with the senior leadership team in strategic decision making, budgeting, and operations as AAOP continues to enhance its mission and build capacity. 

This position plays a key role in the organization’s strategic financial decision-making and fiduciary responsibility. This position manages all aspects of financial risk; develops and implements financial systems; ensures compliance with regulatory and funder requirements; and leads an effective financial management infrastructure to ensure alignment between financial goals and strategic priorities, and the sustained financial health of the organization.

Financial Management:

  • Lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Director; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
  • Manage organizational cash flow, forecasting, and day-to-day fiscal operations, and support with bi-weekly payroll.
  • Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
  • Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the bookkeeper, and to the board of directors.

Operations:

  • Supervise the Facilities Department in the implementation of policies and procedures related to facility issues.
  • Working with the Facilities Manager, establish protocols and processes to ensure effective building maintenance and compliance.
  • Manage key vendor relationships, including IT consultants, and identify/recommend others to meet organization growth needs. Participate in regular meetings with Executive Director around fiscal planning & development
  • Drive initiatives in the management team and organizationally that contribute to long-term operational excellence

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or equivalent experience including experience managing staff
  • 3-6 years of overall professional experience; six-plus years of broad financial and operations management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks Online- specifically journal entries, payroll and bank reconciliation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data & reporting and audit coordination
  • Experience in grants management- foundation and government
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of AAOP
