Position: Organizing Summer Intern (Seasonal Part-Time)

Wage: $19 – $24 per hour

Location: In-Person
Dates: May 2024 – August 2024; M-TH + some weekend hours

Hours: 18-20 hours/week

Reports to: Organizing and Partnership Director

Organization Summary Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP) is a non-partisan organization led by and for young Asian Minnesotans in the Twin Cities. Through our grassroots organizing efforts and programming, we aim to develop young Asian community leaders to resist oppression and co-create a more just future for their families, schools, communities, and cities. 

Who are we looking for? We’re looking for a passionate individual that cares deeply about their community and loved ones that desire to create an impact and make a difference in the world. This individual will work well in teams but can also take lead on a project and work independently. We’re looking for a candidate that is responsive, communicative, and able to manage multiple project deadlines. This individual identifies as Asian Minnesotan youth and/or can engage with Asian Minnesotan youths. 

Schedule: This summer internship is from May – August 30, 2024 varying between 18 – 20 hours per week. The hours for this position will range from 10AM – 4PM Monday through Thursday and some weekend hours. We will work closely with the individual to solidify a schedule that prioritizes the Organization work needs within the time frames suggested.

Position Summary The Organizing Intern is responsible for supporting AAOP’s grassroots organizing, community engagement and base building efforts in 2024. This position will focus on direct community engagement through workshops, dialogues and community events. The position will also support in building and sustaining community relationships as well as tracking, organizing and analyzing relevant data to support and uplift AAOP’s issues: Reproductive Justice and Climate Justice & Democracy.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement The Organizing Intern will be co-leading in designing and the implementation of workshops, events and dialogue with community members to uplift AAOP key areas of focus. Take lead in coordinating logistical planning and implementation. 
  • Outreach & Base Building The Organizing Intern will support the development of specific outreach and turnout strategies for AAOP public events. The Organizing Intern will also support the implementation of direct community outreach, coordinating digital outreach with the Communication & Digital Coordinator. Additionally the Organizing Intern will attend community events and tabling to build and sustain relationships with stakeholders. 
  • Data & Reporting The organizing intern will support in tracking AAOP’s event turnout, themes and narratives from community engagement and report to the larger staff meeting. The organizing intern will also support in organizing and analyzing data from canvassing and community engagement.
