Since the Atlanta shooting, we’ve had many well-meaning & well-intentioned allies reach out to offer support and monetary donations. Thank you. While we are grateful for the support during this time, we hope that our allies & supporters will continue to mobilize and join the fight to end white supremacy — in schools, in parks, in our government, at the polls, & beyond.
What does that look like? (We’ll be talking specifically about how to engage with our work!)
Ethnic Studies in schools! Why is Ethnic Studies so important? First and foremost: ES is a teaching of self love & understanding of how colonialism, capitalism, patriarchy, and white supremacy play a role in oppression.
Not only is it an anti-racist way of learning about history & culture, but it uplifts the importance of diverse POVs — especially Indigenous peoples and people of color.
The shootings were a display of the necessity of an Ethnic Studies curriculum. Without the understanding of how white supremacy, colonialism, and patriarchy play out in history, how could we have reconciled what happened?
AAOP is part of the Ethnic Studies coalition and Youth 4 Ethnic Studies coalition. The Y4ES is focused on providing popular education facilitated by youth for youth on Ethnic Studies and how important it is for our schools.
The ES coalition focuses on the legislative process and bringing an ES curriculum to social students standards. You can advocate for ES as well! Learn more here.
Rent stabilization is a small step in racial equity, especially in high POC density cities. We’re a partner org with @HENS coalition in advocating for a rent stabilization measure on the ballot in S. Paul for the 2021 fall election
St. Paul boasts of a high density of people of color, especially Black and Hmong populations. But rent increases mean inequitable housing, keeping low-wealth communities of color locked out of the housing market.
This measure would make sure our St. Paul residents can #KeepStPaulHome and prevent drastic rent increases.
Are you a St. Paul renter? Share your story.
