AAOP launches Crisis Rapid Response Developmental Grant for MN-based Organizations

December 18, 2020 — TWIN CITIES, Minnesota

Nearly a year has passed since states began locking down in response to the pandemic, and since the pandemic has unveiled some of the largest inequity gaps in our Black, Indigenous, and communities of color — including our Asian communities.

Our BIPOC communities have shown care for each other in the face of this pandemic, uprising, and increased xenophobia and harassment of our marginalized communities through mutual aid efforts. As individuals and organizations come together to provide mutual aid relief and support, we at Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP) know the importance of the role of our local organizations.

AAOP is launching a grant for local Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) organizations in Minnesota, whether that’s in the nonprofit sector or student organizations, to continue to provide COVID-19 relief efforts.

“We’re still in the middle of a pandemic and while distribution of the vaccine is just beginning, it still won’t reach the public for months — months where many of our communities still need basic necessities like food, water, shelter. That’s why it’s so important for us to continue to provide support for mutual aid and COVID-19 relief efforts,” says Vang Xor, AAOP Leadership & Movement Director.
