AAOP is offering grants up to $3,500 for Census outreach for 2019 – 2020. The decennial Census is key to distributing federal funding into communities for everything from roads to schools to hospitals. However, communities of color and low income communities are disproportionately undercounted by the Census, resulting in less funding and less representation of those communities in a concentrated area. With severe underfunding of the 2020 Census efforts, it is crucial to carry out a massive grassroots mobilization effort with and by communities of color and low income communities.
There are over 325,000 Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in Minnesota, and many of our community are impacted by being undercounted in the 2020 Census. As such, AAOP is distributing funds to AAPI community-based organizations to carry out grassroots outreach efforts in their targeted communities. The goal is to increase API participation in the census and increase community-based organizations’ capacity to carry out this grassroots effort in their community.
