From November 2nd through November 5th, Ignite Minnesota Asian Power (IMAP) Coalition members will be engaging with the local Asian American community through door knocking, phone banking, and community conversations to learn about community issues, advocate for our community, and provide voter education. Voter education is especially crucial in this time of misinformation, fear-mongering, and distrust as the elections loom closer.
This election year is focused on the St. Paul local elections. Our outreach has been primarily about educating community members on St. Paul City Council members, but the ballot will also include school board members, and a referendum on trash collection services.
IMAP coalition members, the largest pan-Asian coalition in Minnesota, will be door knocking and phone banking community members to get out to the polls in St. Paul during #GetOutTheVote.
Coalition members include: Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP), CAPI-USA, ReleaseMN8, Church of St. Columba, Hmong Women Achieving Together, Filipinx for Immigrant Rights and racial Justice (FIRM), Hmong Americans for Justice (HAJ), Karen Organization of Minnesota (KOM), Bhutanese Community of Minnesota (BCOM), COPAL MN, Lao Assistance Center of Minnesota (LACM), SEWA-AIFA, and Vietnamese Social Services (VSS).
“Despite this election year being an off-year, it’s still just as important to ensure that our communities get the opportunity to go out and vote. St. Paul’s ballot will include an important referendum affecting trash collection services, which will directly impact St. Paul residents,” leyen, AAOP Communications and Social Media Coordinator says.
It is critical to make sure the Asian American community, our community, understands and is able to take action. Our community must have access to the polls and make sure their elected officials actually represent them.
