Asian American Organizing Project Builds Community Power for Upcoming Midterm Elections
In the weeks leading up to the Midterm Elections, Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP) has been engaging with the local Asian American community through door knocking, phone banking, and community conversations to learn about community issues, advocate for our community, and provide voter education. Voter education is especially crucial in this time of misinformation, fear-mongering, and distrust as the elections loom closer.
Through phone banking and doorknocking, AAOP has reached out to nearly 4000 Asian American community members, pledging over 2500 and registering over 500.
“It’s important to make sure that our community members get the chance to voice their opinions and vote for representatives who can represent the people and who can address our community’s needs and concerns,” Leyen, AAOP Communications & Social Media Coordinator says.
Come out to the polls on Tuesday, November 6th to #GetOutTheVote and make #MidtermsOnMyTerms. If you’re not registered to vote, Minnesota is one of the few states that allow same-day registrations provided you bring:
- A state-issued ID OR
- Photo ID AND bill with address OR
- A neighbor in your precinct to Vouch for you
Find your polling location here: mnvotes.org
Polls are open 7AM to 8PM. Get in line before 8PM.
With news about the potential eradication of all gender identification and the administration’s intent to take away citizenship from citizens, it is more critical now than ever to make sure the Asian American community our community understand and are able to take action. Our community must have access to the polls and make sure their elected officials actually represent them.
