About AAOP
Asian American Organizing Project is a non-partisan organization led by and for young Asian Minnesotans in the Twin Cities. Through our grassroots organizing efforts and programming, we aim to develop young Asian community leaders to resist oppression and co-create a more just future for their families, schools, communities, and cities.
Purpose of Position
Members of the board of directors are trustees who act on behalf of an organization’s constituents, including program participants, funders, members, the government and community members.
Responsibilities
- Attend board and committee meetings and occasional functions, such as special events
- Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
- Serve on committees and work collaboratively with other board members on special assignments
- Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing financial resources and partnerships by leveraging connections and networks necessary for the organization to advance its mission
- Suggest possible nominees to the board who can contribute to the work of the board and the organization
- Keep up-to-date on developments in the organization’s field
- Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities with guidance from staff and board Treasurer, such as reviewing the organization’s annual financial statements
Qualifications
- No experience necessary! We ask for a commitment to and willingness to learn about AAOP’s programs and mission
- Written and oral communication skills
- Personal qualities of leadership, integrity and a passion for improving the lives of AAOP’s program participants and community members
- Fundraising and legal skills preferred, but not required
Work Environment
Meetings are virtual. Board members are invited to attend in-person events.
Time Commitment
AAOP’s board of directors is a working board and meets on a monthly basis. A board member can expect to spend approximately 5-8 hours a month (including regularly scheduled board meetings) on action items, committee meetings, trainings or other tasks assigned by the board.
Term
Each AAOP board member serves a two-year term.
