Job Title: Community Outreach Canvasser

Hours: 20 – 30 hours a week; flexible and seasonal

Pay: $11/hour


Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP) is hiring a team of seasonal, part-time canvassers to outreach to young Asian (18 – 35 years old) residents and voters in Minneapolis and St. Paul about the 2017 local Election. Outreach efforts are primarily through face to face at the doors, and events to provide awareness and resources about the election, and to conduct voter education, information, and protection.   • Election outreach through targeted doors, and events
  • Conduct issues survey, and follow up conversations
  • Voter Education, Voter Registration and Pledges
  • Attend canvassing, and script training
  • Training volunteers
  • Coordinate languages assistance & transportation
  • Report to Community Organizer

  • Community outreach, engagement, & recruitment
  • Train the Trainer for door knocking
  • Script writing & messaging
  • Active listening, and communication building skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Navigating neighborhoods in St. Paul, and Minneapolis
  • Voter registration guidelines & legality

  • Issues affecting MN Asian communities
  • Non-partisan electoral & civic engagement
  • Voter Registration guidelines and legalities
  • Asian cultural nuances related to gender justice

At least 1-2 year experience or if no experience, willingness to learn:

    • local election, civic engagement, and community outreach
    • knowledge in non-partisan, voter registration guidelines and legalities
    • Data compliance and privacy
    • door knocking planning, management and training
    • Canvassing, and conducting short surveys
    • Asian language(s) and/or transportation assistance at events and at the polls
  • Strong commitment to civic engagement, community organizing, and empowerment of underrepresented Asian communities
  • Strong commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice
  • Self-starter, excellent communication skills, good time management, and meeting deadlines
  • Enjoys meeting and interacting with new people, and people of all background and identities
  • Works well in challenging environment both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to stay on task and problem solve
  • Ability to work in non-English speaking communities
  • Ability to speak Asian languages is a plus; Hmong, Vietnamese, Karen, Khmer, Lao, Mandarin, Hindi, and Tagalog.
  • Asian language(s) writing skills is a plus
